Is mid September too late in the year to enjoy the walks, train rides , views and summer pursuits offered?
Thanks
You should be fine.
I’ve been to the Austrian Alps at that time of year, admittedly a few hundred miles away but a similar latitude and altitude.
The trip was mostly great – hot days, swimming in the lake, hiking and mountain biking. Mid-trip, we got hit by early snowfall that blanketed everything above 1800m for several days, but the valley remained warm and sunny once the storm passed. The weather was freakishly unusual, though, and the farmers hadn’t yet brought the cattle down from the high alpine pastures.
You can get bad weather in the mountains at any timw of year. I wouldn’t hesitate to go in September unless I’d set my heart on traversing some particular high altitude routes.
