Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club LHR – PVG: To upgrade or not to upgrade?

  • 6 posts

    Hi,

I have an upcoming BA flight in old Club World from LHR to PVG in May and I, like many others have been praying the 787-9 gets the Club Suite installed in time but it seems this is now a lost cause.

So I’m thinking to upgrade to F, to avoid the crappy old seats and having to scramble over people to go to the toilet in the middle of the night. My question is:
    Do I:
    A) Pay the £580 each way upgrade charge, currently on offer
    B) Wait and hope for a reward seat. (Seatspy already setup)
    C) Wait and hope for a cheaper upgrade at the desk.

FYI there are still 5 F flights available to book.

Previous experience of similar situation would be greatly appreciated.

£ 580 would be a good price for an F upgrade and I don’t see it being any cheaper on the day.

Agreed, would suspect it would be higher on the day, and usually is rather than online offer. I would take the F seat over old club world. You also get CCR access if not GGL

I travel this route 3 or 4 times per year. I keep an eye on F reward availability too, as sadly the 789’s haven’t been upgraded to CS yet. Last Sep/Oct there was a dump of F award seats for Jan to April, but since then they have been rather thin on the ground. For £580 I would upgrade now.

Yes, agree, PVG used to be a real sweet spot for F availability to Asia but they seem to have tightened it up massively recently

Decision made then. Appreciate the comments!

I hope you enjoy the flight and Shanghai. It’s an amazing city and the Chinese people are so friendly.

Loved the city. My first ying yang seat experience and apart from the food it was very average. Luckily I had aisle “or unluckily” with the seat rest where you put your legs kept collapsing. All in all not great.

Simple decision IMO, if you are too tall and/or too broad to fit comfortably on old CW seat then it’s worth upgrading if you have the cash but if you fit the seat fine then I can think of better things to do with £1k+.
