Very frustrating – found availability for 2 x J all the way from London to Sydney on BA0015 – the holy grail ! – and was ready to use Barclays upgrade voucher… but BA’s site wouldn’t allow the second leg as the “connection” time in Singapore was less than 120 minutes. IT’S THE SAME FLIGHT NUMBER AND SAME PLANE, YOU IDIOTS !
For now I’ve booked it with the 2nd leg pushed back a week. On the one hand I wouldn’t mind a week pottering round Singapore and Malaysia, on the other hand I suspect I paid a lot more Avios because of the break: 245k avios plus £950 for 2 x premium economy on a peak day (upgraded to business with voucher). Anyone know what the cost would be if could force it through as a single journey ? And is this a known problem with redeeming on this flight and will a BA phone agent be able to fix ? Thanks 🙂
So you tried to book it as LON-SIN-SYD rather than a straight LON-SYD?
The former would indeed fall fall foul of the MCT rule but not the latter.
This would be the first time I’ve ever heard of the MCT issue being raised when booking the straight through flight.
No, tried to book it as lhr-syd. I think it went as follows: It offered me stopovers, I said no, then it actually offered me the 2 flights I wanted, I selected them, it asked me to confirm I wanted to use the upgrade voucher and I confirmed, and then at that point it said the booking couldn’t be made as the connection time was too short !
Not this route but I’ve regularly had the MCT message when trying to book reward flights (normally with a domestic connection). Bizarrely it’s been both ways – either I need to add a stopover or remove the stopover and book straight through to get it to work – BA IT eh?!
Do you need to go through immigration and check in again on this route, which is why the MCT could be an issue? I vaguely recall having to do something like that at BKK en route to SYD some years ago.
That does sound like a lot of avios – did you perhaps only get the “discount” on the first leg? Possibly a call to BA might get this sorted out.
@Anna – no just security whist they change the crew over and clean the plane.
If you’re quick off there’s even time for a quick lounge visit and shower.
As I said I’ve never heard of MCT being an issue with this flight before so perhaps it is something to do with trying to use the voucher.
Worth a call to BAEC I think.
