Forums Payment cards American Express LNER cashback: what’s a ‘participating location’?

  • 60 posts

I’ve got the 10% LNER cashback offer on one of my cards.

I’d like to use it to buy my annual season ticket.

The Ts & Cs say it’s valid for transactions in participating locations and online.

Has anybody successfully used this on a transaction at an LNER-run ticket office (e.g. Kings Cross)?

Check if you have this on airtime and double dip (though I think season tickets may be excluded so best check)

I have used the King’s Cross office a few times with both the Amex offers, as well as similar offers on the VS MC Cashback. That said, I’m waiting for the credit on my most recent one to come through.

Apply for an LNER Smart card. You can apply on line. You need to upload a photo. They send the smart card in the post. You can then buy a season ticket and add it to your smart card through the LNER website.

Note that this works for any season ticket.

Mine was for Thameslink, on a route not operated by LNER.

Thanks all, it sounds as though it’s workable – great!

I’m reluctant to go down the smartcard route. Call me a troglodyte but I prefer a paper season ticket.

i’ve just checked and airtime excludes season tickets

But at the moment the cashback is 8% via the app – which stacks with the current MBA 5% so I’ll be stocking up on vouchers

I have had LNER cash back on a season ticket, as well as other operators tickets

An update for future searchers – I received the cashback on my annual season ticket purchase.

This was for a route not served by LNER. I had to have it issued on a smartcard, but worth it for the saving.

An extremely generous offer from Amex/LNER!

The National Rail Smartcard App works with the LNER Smartcard
