Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club London – Cairo flight reccommendations

  • 623 posts

Have 3 week trip to Cairo in January.

Any recommendations on best flight service to get there? Best aircraft?

Direct it’s about 5 hours. Too short to get club suite on BA?

BA booking with Avios and possibly BC voucher. Non BA, cash booking.

I don’t mind stopovers on the way to take in a city break on the way.

    TIA

BA operates this as Club Europe now, so just a blocked middle seat. So not super ideal but also not a disaster IMO, especially with a voucher and 2 of you travelling.

Having a quick look at widebody options today as an example (though you’ll need to check January) then Egyptair has them out of London/Frankfurt/Paris/Amsterdam and Air France from Paris, Turkish Airlines from Istanbul also. But most of the other euro carriers are also on short haul aircraft.

Thanks @SamG , how do you source that aircraft info?

Just so I know for next time and not trouble the forum.

I had a look on flightradar24. But google flights is a good way of seeing this also for specific schedules

Wizz Air has just launched Luton to Cairo (Sphinx). It’s the cheapest way to get there now.

EgyptAir is the logical option if you want proper business class – just make sure you’re booking onto a long haul aircraft. Bookable with Star Alliance miles and availability seems very good.

You are omitting one factor about MS, that may lead some folks to definately not book.

I am also interested in booking London-Cairo business class ticket for a holiday sometime next year. I was hoping for a proper business class seat from BA on this route, but your post broke my illusion. I made a dummy booking to view the seat map and it is indeed a middle seat blocked configuration on Airbus A321neo, which is understandably a single aisle aircraft, similar to what BA flies on Amman route. Gutted, was hoping to use a 241 on this route.

Friends don’t let friends fly Wizzair 🤣

Not sure if it’s improved recently but they had real trouble operating these long routes as they didn’t night stop the crew downroute so any hitch and it couldn’t go as they wouldn’t get there and back.

Easyjet had been trialling stops in Egypt to improve reliability, not sure if they decided to keep them. It’s the full whack £520pp compo if it goes wrong for operational reasons so I imagine the numbers must stack up. My sister got it + put up in a 5* hotel which cost Easyjet nearly as much as they’d paid for their trip!

I would rather have a comfortable seat and a soft drink on MS than a G&T and backache on BA after sitting with my knees jammed against the seat in front on BA.

Another option is Sharm El Sheikh….though I’m guessing it’ll all be charter flights.
