Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards Loss of Crowne Plaza lounges – UK

  • 3 posts

Is anyone else getting fed up with booking a Crowne Plaza and finding that they have chosen to close it’s club lounge? This is the USP of the chain and sets it apart from Holiday Inns.

Most of these hotels are now no longer worth the premium price tag that they carry. Additionally, as a Diamond Member, I have chosen Annual Lounge access as one of my rewards. Unless I regularly stay in IC Hotels (not really within the work budget) it is an almost pointless addition. Gerrards Cross, Reading, Marlow have all shut theirs in the last year. Now they are just expensive Holiday Inns.

I hope IHG intend to reach out to their franchisee’s and do something about this. Who can I contact to complain?

On a positive note, the Club Lounge at CP Heathrow T4 is great and run by an incredibly lovely lady called Michelle who is worth her weight in gold.

@Alex F – it seems amazing CP can afford to offer lounges at all; it’s an expensive service to provide for little return and still generates complaints. I would expect more to disappear or prices to need to rise.

    Yes, agreed.

I too stopped at Gerrards Cross and Marlow recently, in addition to the one at Gatwick last year, who all seem to have lounges that have closed.

On the other hand, Leeds is fantastic and Stratford isn’t bad either.

But you are right, it’s little more than a slightly more premium styled Holiday Inn at a lot of properties these days.

Funny you should mention the lounge pass, I purposely didn’t opt for it due to the seeming continued removal of lounges.

Michelle is great at CP T4. Stay there a lot and she always makes sure your looked after. Always makes a fuss of the kids too if they are with me.

Has Crowne Plaza Crawley closed its lounge too? Thought that was still open.

No Michelle in the lounge last night but we will definitely be back. H30 bus made the T5 to T4 transfer very easy.

It was her day off yesterday 🙂

No, Crawley is back open again. They seem to have had a change of ownership/management. It is so much better than it was.
