I had snapped one of those intern rates at the intercon Lyon for this Aug. Just remembered that the French all go on holiday for a month… Is there much point to visit for a long weekend in Aug? Mainly interested in restaurants and shops.

Most things will be open, it’s mainly smaller family owned shops and a few restaurants that might be closed but the rest stay open for tourists, even if may offices will close for the month. It’s a great city and area to visit, the only downside being that it risks being stiflingly hot in August.
Forget about using Amex Plat dining credit as the restaurants on the list will be closed. A lot of the restaurants will actually close for 2 weeks minimum in August (either first or second half). You won’t starve, but some of the more interesting ones might be closed. Same with smaller shops. There also won’t be many locals in the area as they’re mostly on holidays.
It’s France, most better chocolate shops, smaller bookshops, boutiques close all of August in Paris as well.
Thanks both. I’ll try to narrow down the restaurants and see if my dates work. On weather, average temps look fine but understand there is the typical heatwave that will come along at some point in summer.
someone recommended a restaurant in Lyon in the comments previously… it was a local restaurant that I *believe* the commentator said was popular with ba crew (not that that is the reason I’m looking for it :))…I did bookmark the restaurants page but have now lost it. Does anyone remember the name/can link to the comment as not having much luck in the search…
thanks
