Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Manchester to Heathrow to Houston to San Antonio – Avios options

Is it somehow possible to travel on the above mentioned route with AVIOS right the way through to San Antonio from the UK? I can only get as far as Houston on the BA AVIOS booking website line (or Dallas even) using AVIOS before the on-forwarding options run out for me. Also cannot it seems do LHR to San Antonio.

That’s possible. BA default route via Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) on American (AA), with the domestic leg on BA. Of course Avios availability is another matter. I would check availability separately for the LHR – DFW and DFW – SAT legs and see if you can align to fit your plans. You could also try other US domestic routings, using the AA website, then check Avios availability on BA and match these to a BA transatlantic route. It’s usually easy to then add the MAN – LHR leg to the itinerary. You are likely to have to call BA to book once you have availability and a chosen routing(s).

Others may have a different way of checking.

BA doesn’t fly direct to San Antonio so whatever route you take will require AA US domestic flights and AA may not make reward seats available to BA on those domestic routes.

Def possible. On an unpopular Tuesday the 7th of November there are seats in all classes from LHR-MIA-SAT. If you try to do from MAN it breaks but you’d be able to book this by calling. You should be able to do Dallas, Chicago, Charlotte also.

So it’s most likely down to availability on the dates you wish to go combined with getting it to show by splitting it up.

Years ago we flew MAN-LHR-PIT-SAT, it must have taken forever! Can’t recall for the life of me which airline the PIT-SAT leg was with. We had a family friend who lived in Uvalde and SAT was the nearest airport. It was a memorable holiday, our friend took us shopping over the border in Mexico and to her village fete where the raffle prize was a shotgun 😯

    Thanks everyone for your replies

Yes looking at some of the other dates there are different options available – the issue is we are travelling to see family over the Christmas period hence options via MIA are not available or have been booked already.

Plenty of options for MAN to Dallas/Houston but nothing on to San Antonio.

Have you considered just driving to San Antonio? It’s only 3 hours and with a layover plus flight and getting from San Antonio airport to your destination there may only be a small time differential.

Yes I think that is what we will end up doing or getting family to pick us up. 3 x £180 on the internal flight starts to put the overall price of the trip up too much.

If you want an adventure there’s a greyhound bus service that takes 3.5 hours and is around $40/person 🙂
