Currently planning a trip to Japan. Keen to utilise some Bonvoy points if there’s value to be had. However, despite having quite a few hotels in Tokyo, they don’t seem to be that well located (i.e. I can only see a couple in Ginza and nothing in Shibuya or Shinjuku). Any suggestions on which Marriott hotels are in the best locations in terms of restaurants, nightlife, Metro accessibility, etc?
Just bumping this thread in case anyone has an opinion. Will only be spending 3-4 nights in Tokyo.
Just left Prince Sakura Towers, nice hotel booked on points, upgraded to corner room with lounge access, it 4 minutes from Shiganawa station.
I have booked several rooms in Japan for clients. Japanese brands or independents are substantially cheaper than international ones, I’d suggest looking first at cash rates in a well regarded hotel in the area you want to be.
Note, the rooms do tend to be fairly small, if that’s an issue.
I’ll definitely look into the Japanese branded hotels as reward nights at most of the Marriott hotels are either not available or simply too expensive. Are there any Japanese branded or independent hotels that really stand out?
There are plenty of threads on this in the destination advice. This question gets asked almost all the time.
We can’t advise unless we know the area you want to be in.
Prince Sakura Towers is a bit tired in my opinion, and I wouldn’t base myself there as a first-time visitor.
@meta I’ll take another look at the threads but didn’t see too much on Japanese branded or independent hotels first time around…mainly discussions on IHG and Hilton hotels. I did see a ref to the Okura which looks promising. Ideally I’d like to focus my stay around Ginza, Shibuya or Shinjuku I think as this will be my first trip back to Tokyo in about 20 years.
There is a list on some of those threads of Japanese chain hotels and suggestions from @AlexG, @yonasl, me and others.
The mitsui brand looks fairly decent but rooms are small. I’m travelling with an infant so need a bigger room which the western chains seem to have more of. Definitely a big gap in price when comparing local hotels with western chains. But points may be a different story if going in peak periods.
Buying hyatt points made sense for me but it’s during cherry blossom.
For marriott, the ginza edition is new and priced slightly cheaper than the RC or other edition. I might be swayed to stay there if doing 5 nights. If space is not an issue, the other marriott options in ginza look ok and not bad of a deal on points.
