Forums Payment cards Other payment cards Monese gift cards only 5 choices?

  • Reney 791 posts

    Hi,

I think several people here have brought Monese gift card in the past. I like having the flexibility of converting them into a range of store gift cards on my phone. Yesterday when I logged in I notice there is only a choice of 5 stores – all supermarkets plus M&S. Previously there are a lot more choices. Is it just my phone/account?

(I know I can convert them to Morrisons and then go from there, but my nearest Morrison is 20 mins drive away and sometimes when I spot a deal I want to jump on).

    When did you buy those?

I converted a few 2 days ago that were bought late January and the usual options were available except M&S.

I reported this yesterday, but my followup post disappeared into moderation.

I contacted Monese about this via a private message on social media, explaining that some gift cards I had purchased from January were all of a sudden only showing 5 redemption partners, whereas last week they were showing many more. The gift cards still have a few days left on them.
Monese responded (via email from an unmonitored box) saying gift cards are only valid for 90 days. Thus completely avoiding the actual issue by providing an irrelevant response.
Obviously cannot respond to the email, and their social media team seem to be deliberately playing dumb.

I guess all fintech ‘banks’ employ the most useless customer service people.

That assumes they employ anyone at all!

The terms say you should contact WeGift, not Monese, if you have any issues. Have you tried that? It’s not to say that Monese have some accountability here, but WeGift may have better support processes in place in the first instance.

Any issues regarding redeeming your voucher on the WeGift site, please contact WeGift support at support@wegift.io.

Importantly, the terms are very specific about where you can redeem

The list of available vendors: Adidas UK, App Store & iTunes, Arsenal FC, ASDA, Ask Italian, Boohoo, Cafe Nero, Cineworld, Currys, Decathlon UK, Deliveroo, EuroStar UK, Google Play, Habitat, Halfords, H&M, Jet 2 Holidays by Inspire, John Lewis & Partners, Just Eat, Lastminute.com travel, Morrisons, National Trust UK, New Look GB, Nike, Photobox, Pizza Hut Restaurants UK, Primark, River Island, Sainsbury’s, Sports Direct UK, Spotify UK, The Body Shop, Ticketmaster UK, Uber Eats, Uber, Virgin GC, Zizzi UK.

    Thank you.
I contacted Wegift yesterday on that email address and by social media.

I’ve just had a positive outcome.
Will post more info in a couple of days.

Make sure you’ve still got the emails with any unused gift card credit that couldn’t be converted due to unannounced removal of almost all redemption partners.

I have spent all the ones that this problem applies to already but curious on your outcome.

While many of the Monese promos offer the usual choice of retailers (quoted by somebody above), they did run at least one more limited promo which offered discounted GCs for shopping that were limited to supermarkets. I suspect you’re trying to redeem one of those.

If you are referring to my original post – No and I have/had both types.

The ones I brought in Feb were many retailers, those were the ones where all the retailers except supermarkets were removed at some point and up to the day I redeemed the last ones which was about 80 days after purchasing. I have used these up.

The ones purchased in April were advertised as groceries stores only and they stayed that way and still is today. Still have some left, other retailers have not been added.

The ones I brought in May were advertised as many retailers and still are.

    Hope this is clearer.

Had the same issue as Reney – with a couple of weeks to go till expiry, all the redemption partners disappeared bar five supermarkets, leaving me with a large useless gift card balance.
Monese customer service deliberately played dumb on Social Media, with misdirection and pretending not to know anything.
No replies to any emails. WeGift were more responsive and understanding, but ultimately not their responsibility.
Further emails to Monese were also ignored.
Finally after a few weeks, I sent a letter before action to the same email addresses, and within 24 hours had a response.
Couple of weeks after that, got back the outstanding balance as a cash refund, along with an additional £50 ‘good will’ gesture.
Interestingly, I got back the unused ‘face value’ rather than the cash I had spent to purchase this (remember for example £400 gift balance costs £320 cash).
I had quite a large balance refunded (Four figures).
So done quite well from this in the end. However, it is disappointing how the official customer services mailboxes remained silent, ignoring me for weeks until I sent the LBA. Feels like a deliberate tactic.
