Hi, I am baffled by my TP change and despite calling BA for clarification I came away with 0 answers. Surprising I know…
So I’m hoping one of you fine folk can help me out.
Current status: Silver
Current TP’s: 1290
TP collection year end: 8 March 2025
As I understand it, my next collection year will be from 9 March – 31 March 25, totalling 22 days. During that time I am flying finn air in business: LHR – HEL – HKG return earning 440 TP’s.
Am I right in thinking that my ‘transition period’ will be the 11 months prior to 9th March 25 and any points earned during that period will be added to the points earned during the next 22 day collection period?
So if I math’d by maths correctly, I should reach gold as all TP’s in my current balance were earned during the ‘transition period’ plus the 440?
Yes this is correct, whatever you collect 9 – 31 March will be added to the 1290 so you should move to Gold until 31 March 2026.
The simplest way to think about it is to treat 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025 as the Tier Point collection year, and see what TPs you will have.
It is important to discount the TPs from 8 March 2024 to 31 March 2024 in this calculation, as they will not count and could be the difference between Gold and Silver.

Why must 08-31 March 2024 earned TPs be discounted? I had asked similar question in the daily chat because I have a niggling worry
I think @jlo was stressing that 08-31 March 2024 earned TPs are, by definition, not included in the 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025 collection period, i.e. you should not simply add together whatever you earned 9th March 2024 – 8th March 2025 to whatever you earn 9th – 21st March 2025, it takes a bit more thought than that but isn’t really complicated.
@BWS Because you have your old collection window of 9th March 2024-8th March 2025 and your new collection window of 1st April 2024-31st March 2025.
So if you don’t discount the 8th-31st March 2024 flights you end up with a 13 month collection window. Others would have as much as a 23 month collection window.
BA is being more than fair in the way this change is being calculated, as you can qualify either in the old window or the new one.
Thanks all! I thought I understood it correctly, but my call to BA to confirm left me doubting myself.
I’ve just returned from a BA holiday to Egypt leaving me on 1440 points after the initial points which have already been issued. The bonus points haven’t been issued yet and should take me to 1600. My collection year ends on 8th March. If the bonus points aren’t issued by 8th will I have to wait for the end of the month to get gold or will everything be backdated immediately as travel was completed on 28th Feb?
Also 320 of my current points were from a holiday last year from 20th to 27th March is this likely to make any difference?
Based on a recent case I fear you may need to raise a complaint to get that one sorted, and it’s a struggle to get people to understand what the problem is.
If the bonus TP don’t get credited to your account until after March 8th, which seems likely, then they will subsequently appear as a 0TP entry as they don’t count in the next collection period. They are added to your lifetime total in the background and _should_ be retrospectively added to the total for the current March 2024 – March 2025 period and give you the Gold status you’re expecting, but don’t be surprised if it doesn’t happen like that.
Either way you will not qualify in the April 1st 2024 – March 31st 2025 period so don’t expect anything at the end of the month. The 320 you’ve mentioned don’t count there so you will be well short of 1500.
I’ll hope that the bonus points arrive in time for 8th then. I see they say they should be credited within 14 days and it will be 8 at that point so maybe a chance.
Do you think it might be worthwhile me giving them a call in advance of 8th given that i’m just waiting on the bonus points?
@BWS I didn’t mention it in the daily chat because, in your case, it makes no practical difference.
Your old TP year ending 8 March 2025 will give you Gold until 30 April 2026. Your new TP year ending 31 March 2025, if you achieve Gold, will also give you Gold until 30 April 2026.
The principle is the same, but you are not facing the potential difference of achieving Gold or Silver.
