Forums › Other › Destination advice › Near Europe recommendations for 2 x families for summer sun
-
After a couple of days of internet searching and head scratching I’m no closer to knowing where to go this summer. We are two families of four with mid-age kids (range 8-14) looking for sun and a pool that isn’t too far away (France/Spain ideal).
Hotel options don’t seem to cater for four very well (kids on a double sofa bed for a week? No way), and villas I’ve looked at seem exorbitant.
I think I’d prefer the simplicity of a hotel if something suitable exists at a reasonable price. Gold status via Platinum with the usual suspects, including 20% Melia vouchers.
Anyone found a decent place for families for less than £400/night they’d recommend?
I’d check one-by-one Iberostar properties in Spain,
Hilton Dalaman offer connecting rooms, which can be upgraded with HH Gold. We go to Dalaman often, and wife and the kid love it.There are some lovely apartment complexes in the south of Spain where you can get 1/2/3 bedroom units plus a full kitchen, but also with hotel facilities.
Diamond resorts are good quality – I’m returning to Los Amigos Beach Club (though it’s not actually on a beach, go figure!) in May with my nephew, his partner plus great-nieces (age 6 and 10), as it has fantastic facilities for kids, 2 decent restaurants, a spa and beauty treatments, and 2 separate pool areas, one kid-oriented and one more sedate.
I’ve paid about £1200 for 8 nights in a 3-bedroom apartment, but I booked very early so prices are probably a bit higher now.
If that doesn’t float your boat, there are numerous others nearer the beaches. Also MacDonald resorts are very nice.
Iberostar is a good shout, hadn’t thought of that (despite receiving 732 emails about them last year). Will have a look.
Thanks NL, will check out those options too.
Keep ‘em coming!
Don’t rule out the Canaries – they’re only another hour or so from the UK than southern Spain, and can be great value in the summer when everyone’s flocking to the Med. Contrary to popular belief they’re not unbearably hot, either, as there’s usually a fair bit of a breeze from the Atlantic.
As well as lots of apartment-style accommodation there are some quite upmarket hotels. The RC in Tenerife is very well regarded and has suites – I recall someone doing a mini review here a few years ago. You can also book it via Emyr and get those benefits.
