Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards New hotel not accepting Amex

Arrived at the recently opened Staybridge Suites Brighton last night. Their credit card machine is not yet configured to accept Amex, despite them opening last week. They currently have no estimate for when this will be resolved, and are asking all guests to pay by Visa or MasterCard.

Apart from that, the hotel is a long overdue alternative to the Holiday Inn.

The Payment Information page on the IHG app clearly states they accept Amex.

Info pages for hotels habitually contain information that is not accurate. It is clearly their intention to take it, hence the info on the page, but the OP has confirmed that it is “not yet” configured to do so. It is a new hotel.

It sounds like the OP is disappointed, so possibly was intending to eat into a sign-up bonus by paying with the amex card.

It’s more the annoyance of having to explain to my finance team why I broke policy and used a personal card for a corporate expense. Somebody in America will look at the website (which states Amex accepted), and delay reimbursement.
Just posting here as an FYI for others – check this is resolved if you plan to stay here and pay by Amex.

“Configuration issue” that lasts a week?

Well, yes, it could be. But, anyone who has worked in hospitality finance will be scanning immediately looking for other red flags.

“I have no other way of paying than this corporate credit card and your website states you accept it – this is a problem for you to resolve.”

This hotel isn’t on the current list of hotels eligible for the IHG £75 off £300 offer.

So stands to reason they’ve not been fully onboarded with Amex yet.

Was the booking not made via a corporate travel agent where said corporate card would have been added to the booking? Either way a simple “The corporate card didn’t work” would suffice when answering the query to the expense request I’d have thought!

There is no current IHG Amex offer, the last one finished nearly a month ago.

Amex offer inclusion or not, it is wholly irrelevant that IHG as a merchant is failing to process a payment via Amex when they advertise they accept this payment method.

    Silly comment.

Most corporate accounting departments know that new merchants may not accept Amex and some old merchants still dont. It’ll be annoying but not a big deal.
Have you tried inserting the amex card in payment terminal and paying using chip+pin? It has worked at some merchants even if they claim they dont have a contract with Amex.
