Forums Payment cards American Express Newbie to Amex Platinum question

  • The Original Nick 141 posts

A friend of mine has had the Amex Plat card for quite a while now nut he’s never had Hilton account, Marriott or any Airline loyalty accounts. When he first applied for the Plat card would Amex have generated him accounts? I rememeber this came up years ago but I can’t remember. Or does he just creat acccounts for each loyalty scheme he wants to use then add them individually on his Amex plat account?
I’ve had my Amex plat too long to remember how it works. Thanks.

I don’t think Amex create anything for you except Priority Pass.

You need to input your hotel loyalty account numbers into the relevant page on the Amex Platinum Benefits page and they’ll process the upgrade in the background.

If you don’t already have these accounts, you’ll need to set them up yourself.

There is a page, which Amex keeps secret, where you go to request the upgrades.

Now, I can’t remember if you still have the option of letting Amex open an account. Irrespective, it’s a bad idea. Open your own account and get control of the log in details.

I asked Amex to create those accounts through their portal for Platinum and it was a prompt process (overnight)

When you say it was prompt, has Amex sent you an account number, user name and password, plus linked the account to your correct email address?

The page Rob refers to can be accessed via the app, go to account then my platinum and click on my benefits

You will get a a page which allows you to enrol into the various car rental/hotel scheme using your account you have created

I’ve done this so far with Hilton and Marriott and got gold status within 2 days for each one
