Forums Frequent flyer programs Other frequent flyer schemes Newbie Question: How do i use my Vietnam Air status to get benefits on KLM

  • 18 posts

    Hi All,

There might well be a thread on here somewhere, but i couldn’t find anything for Vietnam when searching.

I got the status match for Vietnam Air with my BA Bronze recently, as i *could* do a lot of flying from Cardiff on KLM.

If i want to utilise the benefits (extra luggage etc) how should i be booking my ticket? On KLM site, Vietnam site (Doesn’t seem possible) ?

Do i need to register my Vietnam status on KLM?

I’m sure this is simple – but having never done it before, it doesn’t look obvious

If booking through KLM on their website, if you are logged in to a AF/KL account it is more difficult, however you will see a frequent flyer section which you can change to the Vietnam scheme and add the Vietnam frequent flyer number to the booking.

Not sure this helps me, sorry – or i don’t understand.

I want to fly with KLM but get the benefits from my Vietnam Air status.

So i’ve gone to the KLM.co.uk website, picked some random flights to JFK via Amsterdam
Continue to Passenger Details and entered my Lotus Vietnam membership number – i should get “Free extra checked baggage” – but the KLM website is trying to charge me for it

Can anyone who has done this explain the process?

You automatically get one extra checked bag for free because of your status. So even if your ticket does not include a checked bag, you get one for free. If you want another bag on top of that then you have to pay. Otherwise there’s no need to try to add extra checked baggage on the KLM website.

KLM is trying to charge me for baggage – it says i have up to 12 (i think) kg – certainly not 23

12kg sounds like your hand baggage allowance in economy. You also automatically get a free check-in bag if you are SkyTeam elite or elite plus. You don’t need to do anything to get this. The only way that “KLM is trying to charge you for baggage” is if you are trying to add an additional bag on top of your free one. If you are SkyTeam elite or elite plus when you check in for your flight you won’t need to pay for your first bag (be prepared to show proof of status if required).

    thank you

    With SKy Team, i understand
But it’s not Sky Team, it’s Lotus – that’s the bit i’m getting confused with
Where do i say “i’m lotus, not sky team – so i need the same benefits”

Sorry – totally new to me

Vietnam Air is part of Sky team… so you are Sky Team.
