Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Not enough Club seats available to reserve

  • 9 posts

Hoping to get some reassurance from the crowd here. I’ve got 4 Club Europe Avios seats booked on a flight London to Tenerife next week. I’m a bronze member and logged on this morning with my 7 days lead time to reserve seats for my party of 4, but literally only 2 seats show available at opposite ends of the cabin.
I don’t understand how there can not be 4 seats available when 4 of us are booked and confirmed. The reason this is really worrying me is that my party is 2 children (age 7 and 9) and 2 adults, and so most critically I need to know that each child will be sat with an adult at least.
I’ve called BA bronze line who could only see the same availability as me, and only advice they can give me is to sort it out at the airport. Frankly, I’m worried we’ll arrive to be told there isn’t space for us on the plane.

    Has anyone ever had this?

You may well have had your seats already allocated as you’re travelling with children, but you won’t be able to see them until OLCI opens (or possibly a couple of days before, so keep checking). There’s not really anything else you can do until OLCI opens, but it’s very unlikely that you won’t be on the flight.

My only similar experience was as a Blue member travelling to Barbados with family for half term in Premium Economy. I couldn’t find 4 seats to check in at T-24. When I called BA the rep suggested I was very prompt to the check in desk in the morning. As you can imagine we were super early and we got upgraded at checkin. Happy days.

At T-24 it’ll be much clearer if there’s going to be an issue. In the past I’ve seen full cabins a week or so out, but then found we’ve been allocated seats already when OLCI opened.

If you confirm the date / flight number we can check what it’s actually looks like, as opposed to what BA are showing to you.

Remember the CE cabin can be shrunk and extended depending on bookings and these adjustments can be made very close up to departure,

What row is currently showing as the length of the CE cabin?

Taking an educated guess at BA2700 LGW – TFS on March 28th, you might get very lucky (or of course you may not).

Currently row 1 is completely empty, so keep an eye on it three days out and you might be able to get that. Otherwise row 7 is also empty but currently blocked.

It’s also an A321 so plenty of space to move the curtain back.

They would not put children in row 1 as its considered an exit row.

Plus row 1 reserved for golds basically until check in closes.

Didn’t know row 1 was a child free zone, thanks for that. Yes it’s reserved for Golds, but not after check in opens unless there are seats for everyone elsewhere in the cabin, and I’ve definitely chosen it myself (as Silver but not Bronze) between T-72 and T-24.

I’ve been able to select row 1 as Silver about 3 days out. Children would need to be minimum age (think it’s 12 on BA?) to sit there.

It’s highly likely that row 2 was reserved some time ago, but at 7 and 9 I’d be thinking adults in row 1 and children in row 2 if available, lol (though 1C can be a pain as there’s no bulkhead so it’s very exposed, e.g. to cabin crew dropping a bottle of wine in your meal as happened to my OH!)

Excellent guess, That’s exactly the flight. Depart at 07:05, Thu 28 Mar 2024, Gatwick (London) Terminal S, BA2700, Club Europe, Airbus A321 jet

The seating plan currently shows as 7 rows for CE

So scope it can move back.

Just done a dummy booking and they aren’t selling any more CE seats on that flight and a quick look at the seat map shows rows 8-11 as ‘unavailable’ and the first economy seat available in row 12

My guess is they’e restricted economy seat selection in rows 8-11 to allow them to move the curtain back it’s just they havn’t put it in the seat map yet.
