Forums Payment cards American Express Not possible to book for a family of 3 with 2 vouchers from same account?

  • 942 posts

    The original HfP “guide” says
“you cannot use two vouchers issued to the same person to book for a family of three” but that it
could change as probably just an IT issue.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to do yet online?

    Cheers!

Do you mean 2 companion vouchers, so as a 241 plus a 50%? Sadly no, and it sounds like fixing these things is very low down on the list!

This isn’t really an IT issue, so it may not change. The system doesn’t currently allow you to use one voucher as a 241 and the other as 50% off and you can’t make a separate booking as the voucher holder needs to be on both bookings.

You also can’t book three people with one voucher (with the third person paying full price) on the same booking unless all the availability for all flights comes from standard reward inventory, not the enhanced BAPP voucher inventory, with no mix‘n’match allowed.

Someone at some point must have made it possible to make a booking for 4 people with 2 vouchers from the same account though, or is that a happy accident?!

So yes, 4 is possible, but 3 isn’t! Blatant numerism on the part of BA!
Can always ring, of course, but was wondering whether it was worth keeping 2 vouchers
in stock for the dreaded midnight NRT ticket rush in April – seems not!

Having said all that, plenty of MAN-SIN J availability for this July, if you
    fancy hopping on board, Anna!!

Yes, booking four people has always been fine since inception twenty plus years ago, because they are on the same fare basis. It was also fine to book three until the advent of the new vouchers in Sep 2021. Airline booking systems (so not a BA specific issue) don’t allow different fare types/prices on the same booking except essentially for children and infants. BA uses a fudge to make the 241 work as a 241. The issue with not allowing anyone on a three person booking to use the ‘extra’ inventory is to prevent back door access to these seats.

Ah thank you Michael, I imagine you are fabulous travel companions! I’m fully booked out for the summer though with our annual GCM trip and my Gold Rush via BA Holidays 😂

Makes total sense. If BA wanted to be really kind, I guess they could activate it for someone on your “family” list, but guess we shouldn’t push our luck!

Took two decades for 50% off/IB usages. So some of us may be 6 foot deep until we see a next radical change.
