Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Old 241 vouchers, new avios/cash pricing ?

  • 74 posts

I have two companion vouchers to use before the end of September. During Covid I booked flights with them then cancelled, in order to extend their expiry dates. So they’re old-style vouchers earned prior to Covid.

I’ve vaguely followed threads about revised avios/cash pricing for redemption flights but didn’t pay much attention. I thought it applied to vouchers earned in the last year or so. But now that I’m about to use them I see that the number of avios required is much higher than I used to need (190k for a club class return to the USA West Coast, when it used to be around 135k) and the cash amount is lower (£900’ish now vs £1700’ish in the olden days). Can I just check, is this correct? I’m not being given a choice of avios/cash combinations, just the one option.

I’m a bit avios-poor so had been hoping to use fewer for these flights, but if this is as good as it gets I’d better grab the flights while there’s still availability.

Unfortunately that sounds about right for old vouchers . You need to read the article about this from when the changes were introduced.

The higher avios pricing applies to long haul redemptions, but short haul are still priced as per the old system, so if you want to conserve your avios you could use your vouchers on one of these routes where cash prices would be quite high over the summer.

Thank you. I must have missed that. It was a very good explanation of the changes.

My other half just got 70k avios for taking out the BAPP so we’ve got enough avios for one short and one long haul. I’m good for this year and for these vouchers. We’re unlikely to be able to pick up more bonus avios in the near future to use for the next voucher but that will have more options.
