Hi,
I am quite new to points ect and was looking at the terms and conditions of moving Amex Reward Points to Hilton points.
One of the conditions is: Once points are transferred please ensure you call Hilton to request a certificate for your stay.
So what happens if you don’t have a stay booked and just want your points on Hilton?
What purpose does the certificate have even if you do have a room booked? My question is once the points have moved to Hilton, surely that is that? I just don’t understand what the certificate is for and is the certificate for Amex or for Hilton? How is it used?
Any help would be really appreciated, thanks very much.
Never heard of that, the points just go into your HH account for you to use as and when you want.
Yep, that’s what I thought they would do, but it’s there in the conditions. Not sure I understand it
Wouldn’t worry; I’d reckon 99% of people (me included) never noticed that and 99.99% of people never did it. Honestly it’s so silly I wonder if it’s a misused cut-and-paste from something else that was used to write those T&Cs and that bit got left in by accident.

Well that’s good to know, i won’t worry about it. More importantly how do you get an Avatar on this forum?
Its most likely copied from US TnCs as the cards there come with free night certificates.

Ah, that makes sense, thanks
On the back end system, at least a long long time ago, you used to redeem points for a certificate and then use the certificate at the hotel.
That’s how the diamond call centre explained it to me when I cancelled a redemption and it took 8 weeks to get the points back. Apparently the reward certificate was cancelled with the hotel thus the stay was cancelled, but the system timed out when refunding the certificate to points…. :S
