Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Only 40 tier points from Pheonix to Charlotte

  • 31 posts

I flew from Pheonix to Charlotte Biz on AA and only got 40 tier points. It shows as I class. Is this correct?
It shows as 1774 miles yet London to sofia is 1251 miles and its 80 tier points.

The system doesn’t work as neatly as that! You can check in the BA TP calculator, but I think you will find it is correct.

According to the TP calculator it is.

The general rule is if a flight is less than 2,000 miles then it’s 40 TPs and over 2,000 then it’s 80

But there are some exceptions such as LHR and MAN – HEL which is 80 but both DUB and MAD to HEL are 40 even though it’s longer.

You will also find that, on short haul flights, only BA flights (or oneworld flights destination pairs that BA used to fly) have 80 tier points for longer short hauls.

The examples @BA Flyer IHG Stayer used above demonstrated this perfectly – LHR-HEL is 80 tier points (BA used to fly this), but DUB/MAD-HEL are not.

When the flights go over the (roughly) 2,000 mile mark, they are now “Long haul” and you earn 140 tier points, such as Helsinki to Lisbon/Malaga.

Always check the Tier Point calculator.
