I managed to book LHR – SYD on BA15, but I failed to get the return, so I was hoping to book part of the way back using the open jaw rules, however I wanted to check my understanding as the BA15 is a direct flight but it does stop in SIN.
Using Great Circle mapper LHR – SYD via SIN is 9274nm
SIN to SYD is 3396nm
SYD to HKG is 3980nm
HKG-LHR is 5209nm
My understanding is that the open jaw distance must be less than both the flights. If me flight out is taken as the full BA16 9274nm then I am fine, but if it is taken as just the second leg of SIN to SYD then my jaw distance is greater than that flight.
Has any one booked an LHR -> SYD and HKG -> LHR open jaw?
@Whisper2 – it’s based on the full flight distance LHR-SYD, even if you were to stopover in Singapore, so returning from HKG is within the IATA fare construction rules which BA applies.
@JDB – thank-you for the clarification.
