We’re just looking at hotels in Osaka and see the HI & Suites Shin-Osaka has been recommended a few times on the forum.
From Osaka we are planning to visit Nara and Himeji Castle as day trips – is Shin Osako station the best station to be based near for these trips or would Osaka-Umeda be a better train station to stay close too (this station seems to also have a lot of hotels nearby)? Thank you
Also could I just check where the main areas in Osaka are for restaurants/bars etc? Are these areas closer to or more accessible from Shin-Osaka or Osaka-Umeda train stations? Thank you.
How long are you in Osaka and what are you planning on doing while there?
We’ve been to the Osaka area three times now and have stayed in a different place each time depending on our main activities/plans (e.g., last week we stayed near Universal Studios because we were primarily there for Super Nintendo World).
If it’s your first time and you’re going to be in Osaka itself for a few days, I would consider staying near Dotonbori and Namba station rather than Shin-Osaka or Osaka/Umeda Station, personally, as lots of restaurants, shopping, etc. nearby. I think you can also get a train to Nara from Namba too.
Shin-Osaka is a bit out of the way for most things, so definitely wouldn’t stay there unless you’re solely using it as a base to explore other parts of Japan via Shinkansen-based day trips and you’re not really planning on doing too much in Osaka itself.
