-
I have recently redeemed a voucher for a reward flight to JFK and it cost £2,036 in taxes and 95,000 miles.
After the recent changes I look at the same fares now and for two people on the same flights it is now 140,000 miles and £1,688.00 in taxes.
If I was to use my voucher it represents a saving of 25,000 miles and £350.00 in taxes.
I know I will get cancellation charges but does anyone know how long I’ll have to wait for the voucher to be reapplied to my account. I have enough miles in my account to purchase the new fares does anyone know if the voucher can be applied retrospectively.
Thanks for any guidance.
Previously, so long as you get a good telephone agent pick up – this could all be done for you in one phone call / no waiting on anything redepositing.
Let us know how you get on under the new regime!
P.S. Vouchers cannot be applied retrospectively (unless cancelling and rebooking)
If you call Virgin, they can cancel and rebook immediately (if you can get through – the lines were reported to be very busy yesterday). I did this a few months ago when the Bahamas route was cancelled.
However, it sounds like you will now be charged £70 pp for this, which will eat into any cash saving.
Also, I might be missing something, but if the new price is 140k miles, and you previously paid 95k, how would you be saving 25k?!
Snap.

New price is 140k before the voucher I presume.
The new price is 140K before the voucher is applied so I m thinking I’ll save 25k and also about £250.
Interesting reward seat options LHR – JNB on Nov 14th:
Economy 15K
Premium 250K
Upper 80KWhile there is always potential scope for a lower cabin to be more expensive due to relative demand and fare buckets, that differential is just daft. To put in in perspective, the Premium saver cost available on a couple of days next month is 15K, Upper is frequently 300K+.
So just to provide an update on this.
I left it a couple of days and the price actually got cheaper both in taxes and points.
Saturday evening I called and was waiting 25 minutes when I got through and explained I had an agent from the UK, who looked at my booking and changed it for me over the phone.
Net result was a credit back of 28,000 miles and a refund of £470.00 in taxes so my UC seats LHR – JFK cost me 67,000 miles and £1,514.98 in taxes.
The only downside was that the refund will take up to 12 working days.
Just to point out the from the original booking the whole amount of the taxes less £30 per seat will be refunded in 12 days, I had to pay out the new taxes amount last night when changing the booking they were not netted off.
