Morning all,
Apologies if this has been asked before (I had a look through previous posts but couldn’t see any specific to this).
Currently planning on utilising my 2for1 premium companion voucher next year in Club World to the USA / LAX. If i do a dummy booking online leaving and returning to Dublin the Taxes and charges are showing as 155000 Avios + £ 746.46.
Does anyone have any experience on what that number would be if I was to call and book to return to Aberdeen instead of Dublin?
DUB > LHR > LAX outbound.
LAX > LHR > ABZ inbound.
Thanks
Just seen this – yes, a few months ago someone posted that they had called BA and managed to book a similar itinerary. I don’t know how much it depends on the particular CSA though! You’d just call the usual number and ask for the avios team.
You could also book the inbound and outbound separately then ask BA to refund the 50% avios for the inbound.
I called 0344 4930747
It took a fair bit of time as the CSA kept telling me that those flights now weren’t available but I persisted as I could still them showing online. she said “oh I’ll check it a different way and look it all separately”.
There shouldn’t be a significant change in cash, might be a few fewer avios as the domestic leg is free with long haul.
Don’t book the 2 legs separately for flights to the USA – the cash component will be a lot more than booking it as a return.
Apologies, yes J or F return booked separately from the US online would incur a lot more charges. You could still book the outbound separately then call to BA to add the inbound but if all the sectors are currently available you ask
You would pay BA’s return surcharges for the inbound plus the RFS fee for the LHR-ABZ sector (it’s only the avios you don’t pay).
If you book an open jaw flight with a companion voucher with only the return flight from a US city do you have to pay the high tax for a one-way flight from the US, or will it count as a return flight and thus the tax will be lower?
If you book the return online you will be charged the higher taxes, but if you call BA and ask them to ADD the return to a companion voucher booking) (be very specific about what you want) they SHOULD recalculate the tax so you’re not paying more. That said, I had a You First CSA refuse to do this last year so there is the odd CSA who won’t do it and you might have to HUACA.
