Afternoon, little question for a clever HfP member:
why is LHR-Palermo 40 Tier points each way, when LGW- Catania is 80 Tier points each way?
I assume just one of the little BA mysteries…… Was about to book BA holiday into Palermo,
in part to get the 320 TPs with double TP offer. Glad I thought about it overnight and checked on HfP tier point list first!
Paul.
I assume Catania just makes it into the next distance band? It is a bit crazy that London to Manchester gets you the same TPs as the outer reaches of Europe, I’m surprised BA hasn’t put a stop to it!
*Not claiming to be clever, I’ve just read a lot on HFP about TPs over the years!
PMO is probably just within a distance boundary.
My guess is the island will be busy with the White Lotus fan base this summer.
I loved that! Even OH has suggested a trip to Taormina after watching it (thanks to @AmyC’s recommendation) 😂
Will BA return to Genoa for the Hotel Portofino fan base?
The White Lotus Hawaii seemed very relaxing, have added that to my RTW trip plan.
Will BA return to Genoa for the Hotel Portofino fan base?
Maybe, if they both ask BA kindly!

Others may have googled to find out the hotel filming location is actually in Croatia.

No probs, glad you loved it. Can’t wait for next one.
To jump on this topic, we are heading to Sicily this summer for a few nights (blame Stanley Tucci / White Lotus).
We are getting the ferry over from Malta, to Pozzallo port, then fly back from Catania.
Any recco’s for hotels / areas to stay along that coast??
Struggling to find somewhere appropriate for us and our 2 kids. (The Four Seasons is £5k a night for a family suite!)
Even considering hiring an AirBnb ?!
Any suggestions much appreciated.

I was there for a longer week end last September. Based myself at the Four Point just outside of Catania city Centre, and used to get to Taormina and Siracusa (Ortigia island and the coast nearby, in particular Arenella Beach is a must). I found the hotel to be pretty decent to be honest. Room was a good size, breakfast was really great, and the restaurant downstairs not bad at all (to be fair food there is pretty good, it may be worth a separate Thread in The “destinations” section of this forum).
As a side note, during our stay
The Maserati development team
Was in the hotel with 5 testing mules of the new GrandTursimo.
A couple of recommendation I do want to share are having a snacking lunch at Bar Prestpino in Catania’s Piazza Duomo (unpretentious but extremely good food) and a Pistachio Tart at Pasticceria/Bar Artale in Ortigia (Syracuse), made with their house pistachios cream (I am planning a trip back just to go back and buy fee jars of their cream).
Depending on how long you have, you could squeeze in visits to Noto and/or Ragusa.
@Luca M
Just the kind of info we were seeking also. Sounds altogether nicer than PMO. Note and Ragusa are definitely on the list.. think Montolbano, and those fabulous town settings. And of course Tucci. All gorgeous…. Plans for this summer, hopefully, to use up our old 241 voucher in CE… wasted but better than not using it.
There are some good Airbnbs on Ortigia island and great pizza opportunities.
I blame Rick Stein for influencing my trip to Palermo, we did find the great food and perfect Spritz. I would return to Cefalu but not Palermo.

Many, many thanks for all this Luca. I think the Four Point will work for us. Well located, and great value. And if its good enough for Maserati…..
