Ok so I accidentally came across a weird trick…
Once you made a purchase on PayPal, you can choose to “split” it with someone who also has a PayPal account, at whatever proportion you want.
So, I spent, say, £100 on a purchase which billed to my Amex. I then split it with my husband at a rate of £1 for me / £99 for him and send him a PayPal request to pay it. He pays it with his supplementary card, and I now have a £99 PayPal credit which I can transfer out to my account.
I have now turned a £100 purchase into a £199 bill to my Amex and a £99 credit to my account.
Am I missing a trick here, as it seems too good to be true?
Amex will realize your doing this, then may potentially call your account in for a financial review.
There have been articles written in the past on this, which ahs caused issues for the Cardholder.
As Amex see it as a way of drawing down funds, so in essence is a cash advance. Which Amex do not like in the slightest.
If it seems too good to be true then it likely is!
I don’t think anyone is going to tell you this is 100% safe and give you an assurance that you’ll be OK.
But as Harry writes above AMEX can be very intolerant of this sort of thing and will close / suspend accounts as they see fit.
