Forums Payment cards American Express Platinum Business points transfer to supplementary card holder?

  • 6 posts

    Hi
Sorry a newbie to the forum and apologise if this has been discussed before (if so would appreciate if you could point me in the right direction).
We have a platinum business account and have accumulated c 2 million miles since opened a few
months ago. Sticking point is that the reward points have been collected in the primary card holders name (I am the supplementary card holder) – however we have agreed to split these points 50/50.
Is there anyway of transferring these points to a third party loyalty scheme BA, Emirates, Virgin, Marriott, Hilton etc which is not in the name of the primarily account holder?
It’s something I have been trying to resolve for a few weeks so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Player one can send their points to Marriott. From there, you can transfer 50% to Player 2s Marriott account with a phone call.

Players one and two can also be members of a BA household account and spend each other’s points.

Player one can make all the bookings that player two asks for on any scheme that’s a transfer partner of Amex.

If you transfer 50% of the points to Nectar via Avios Player two could cash out via their own Nectar (there’s no name checking on Nectar AFAIK).

Pre covid, Nectar and Radisson transfers were not name checked. This may have changed.

Interestingly, in the US, you can do what you are discussing. I’m not sure why it is a problem here.

    Thanks guys.
For some reason I thought a single cardholder was capped at sending only 100,000 miles to a Marriott account per calendar year. Am I wrong with that assumption?

It’s each Marriott account can send max 100K per cal year to another Marriott account.

Hi Rob, does this mean the same holds true for Amex Gold in the UK (i.e., you can only link accounts in the primary cardholder’s name)? Pretty frustrating as my husband is a few miles short in his Virgin account but it seems this will not be a way to top up

I’ve never heard of it being possible, put it that way.
