Forums Payment cards American Express Platinum Dining credit – how does it work?

Do I need to do anything to activate the £150 benefit? Or do I just turn up, pay for something, and Amex spots it and deducts it automatically?

Make sure the offer is added to your account under the “offers” tab (press the plus icon next to it), and then it’ll automatically be applied when you pay at a qualifying restaurant

Takes a day or so to show up as a statement credit on your AMEX account. It will credit you up to your £150 allowance, so if you spend £70 in a qualifying restaurant, you’ll be credited £70 with £80 ‘credit’ remaining. If you spend £200, you’ll just get the £150 credit on the statement.

Thanks both. At the moment, nothing comes up on my offers page on the app. Do I need to be near the vicinity of the restaurant for the offer to come u?(One of the buttons on that page is ‘offers near me’, or something to that effect). Or is it because I set it up Friday evening and it’s going to take a while before they have me setup….🧐

I’m guessing you’ve checked the “Saved to Card” tab too? Edit: just checked and it’s called “My Offers” in the app.
If it’s on that tab then everything is good to go. Nothing pops up on the offers near me function

If you don’t see it, you can call/chat online with Amex and they can add it manually.

Just looked at the menu at Le Train Bleu, and for the kids, it actually
states “orange juice (made from concentrate)”!!

Thank you. After contacting them they added it

My wife has just got a Platinum card. In the sign up terms it stated when you save the dining credit in my offers, it will have an expiry date of 31/12/24. We won’t be in any foreign countries where we can get the credit until February. Seems a bit unfair when she’s only just taken out the card?

“By saving this benefit to your Card, you agree to these terms.
This benefit will start on the date you save it to your Card and end on 31 December 2024.
You’ll receive statement credits up to the total value of £150 each benefit period for eligible
transactions made in the UK and up to the total value of £150 each benefit period for eligible
transactions made outside of the UK.
The first benefit period ends on 31 December 2022. The next benefit periods will run annually from 1
    January 2023 to 31 December 2023 inclusive, and 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2024 inclusive.
Unused annual benefits cannot be carried over”

It expires on 31/12/24 for everyone not just your card and they were very clear about that when you signed up so I don’t understand what’s unfair?

If you didn’t like the terms you shouldn’t have signed up?

Maybe they’ll bring out something else next year, maybe you’ll get another Amex offer that works better for you in the meantime or maybe you won’t but you knew it would end at the end of this year and that you couldn’t use it.

Thanks for the reply. I missed those T&C’s as I applied for my own Platinum in January so it wasn’t an issue for me to use it. Never mind, she’ll still get the £150 UK credit + 2 x HNs, the 45k bonus + £400 FH&R credit, and my 18k referral plus all the other stuff.

An excuse to book a little break away? or give the card to someone that can use it?

Also 2 HN credits suggest the card is already a few months old so having 6 months+ including the busy summer holiday period to use the global dining credit doesn’t seem too unfair?

    Definitely!

Hi, I am going to London next week and was planning on visiting an Ivy restaurant to use my dining credit but I plan on cancelling the card soon. How long does the credit take to appear? Is it just food no alcohol?

Most of my Dining Credits have credited inside a week and it covers anything put through on the bill (Food, Alcohol, Tax, Service, Tips, etc.).

There’s a much wider range of restaurants in London to use the credit than an Ivy. Depending on where you will be we had a very pleasant meal at Fallow back in July. There is another thread somewhere that has a lot of comments on using the credit in London.
