Hi
New to this game, and want to get a sense check that this is doable:
I want to get 2x LHR-Tokyo flights booked on business using the 241 card, and intend to achieve this by:
– 19k existing points
– 30k via British Airways American Express sign-up
– 22.5k via 15k spend by October next year (1.5 points per pound)
– partner has 30k to transfer across to me
TOTAL: 101k points. With 241 this gets me the off-peak Heathrow to Tokyo flight, companion ticket available oct 2025 and I book for Oct 2026
Am I missing anything? It seems a bit too good to be true
I understand you are aiming at a one-way flight.
If so, yes. It is that simple — except for actually bagging the seats. Tokyo is a very popular destination, you may need to call on the minute the seats are available.
Plus the taxes. Ex-LHR flights tend to be expensive tax-wise.
Welcome 🙂
– partner has 30k to transfer across to me
Just open a BA household account to pool the 30k Avios – no transfers needed (unless partner’s Avios are sitting elsewhere, in which case, transfer to BA account in partner’s name if there is an avenue to do so).
As long as you’re logged into the voucher holder’s account, the Avios payment for the flight will simply be taken from both accounts in the household account.
You also missed the bit where you need to be super quick and call up BA at midnight some time in October ’25 and get those very sought after Avios seats, and hope that BA doesn’t do anything weird with the Avios pricing…
But other than that, if that’s the Avios price for Tokyo (and you have factored in all taxes), then it looks okay 🙂
And if you haven’t already got it consider supplementing the Amex with eg free Barclaycard Avios card to pick up extra Avios where Amex not accepted.
Consider Iberia A350 to Tokyo too, with the 241.
Iberia Plus had a 50% Avios component discount some months ago – managed to book a biz return in December from MAD for 59,500 Avios plus 229.14€. Outstanding value IMO, and you will be able to access the same pricing with a 241 in the BAEC.

Well done. That is a great price.
