Hi all
I have the Platinum card and it’s offering me 18000 points for referring someone to Amex – can someone confirm that the person I refer can apply for ANY Amex card and i’d get the 18000 points, or is it different points for different cards?
Also, is the person i’ve referred able to transfer their points to me eg with a family account or similar?
IE I’m referring my mum, who will probably apply for the BA Amex blue card, or possibly the cashback card but they probably won’t use the points as much as I would.
Secondly…i’ve read here about Plat cards allowing fast track at some airports – as these UK issued cards or only European ones that qualify for this perk?? I’m travelling through Italy soon and some airports are listed (in italian!) via a link someone from here posted. I can’t see anything on the UK site so i’ll assume not, but has anyone had success?
Thanks in advance!
As long as you generate the referral from your Plat, then you get the 18k MR regardless of which card they are accepted for.
If you are in a BAEC household account, then you could pool your avios for free, or she can transfer up to 27k avios per year at a cost of £15 per transfer. She couldn’t transfer you points directly if she went for an MR earning card, but could via avios using the above methods.
I don’t have a Plat so couldn’t answer the last question.
There’s a separate thread on the Fast Track. TLDR: it will only work for Centurion members, and then only at LHR and MAN. Some people have chanced their arm with the Platinum card in the UK and it’s worked, so YMMV.
Thanks for your responses, i’ll suggest the BA Amex then, its a free one and they won’t be required to spend massively.
My parents are among the people that can’t figure out what the ‘points thing’ is all about – i’m trying to educate them!!!

Do you know, I’ve tried to educate people that instead of paying on a debit card and getting 0% kickback, they could use a particular credit card and get x% kickback. Mixed success – some people just don’t get it and don’t want to do it. You can only try and push water uphill so far. I don’t mention it to some people any more.
My wife has enjoyed the benefits of my points earning for years, but still pays for stuff she buys for herself with her bloody debit card. Agggghhh!!
