Forums › Payment cards › American Express › Points newbie …. Where to go after the Amex Gold?
-
hiya, can anyone give me some advice on what to do next please? I am just coming up to the end of my first year with the Gold Amex, do i cancel it before the annual fee kicks in? I want to jump to another welcome bonus offer but am not eligible for the Barclaycard avios offer. Anyone know where/what it’s best to move to? thanks 🙂

Don’t just dump Gold because of the fee.
£160 gets you access to double rewards on airline bookings, £60 of Deliveroo credit and 4 lounge visits. Those things have variable value to different people. But also don’t forget that every £5K spend to £25K (£30K? I’ve forgotten) gets you 2.5K additional Member Rewards. It’s not hard to make the argument that the Gold card is decent value, and a very good card to spend on.

I suppose there’s always the possibility of a retention offer too. Probably unlikely to amount to £160, but not to be overlooked.
Isn’t £120 of Deliveroo credit? I’m having a Weston here. It is £25K for 12.5K member rewards though.

It’s actually £120 of Deliveroo credit. Plus there are cashback deals not on regular Amex cards (eg. 10% off selected restaurants).
I guess the most obvious card to go to next is the BAPP, as you would be eligible for the SUB (assuming the Gold is the only Amex card you have).
Don’t forget if you cancel your Gold, you will have around a month to move your points out of your account, unless you take the free ARCC to keep your points with Amex.
