I’m off to see Nabucco at the ROH next week. Does anyone have any good pre-theatre dinner recommendations?

I’ve been to Sushi Samba before – their pre-theatre menu is very good but I find their a la carte menu a bit overpriced.

Pre-Covid we used to go to the Petersham restaurant and were never disappointed.

Dishoom is good if you like Indian food.
Not dinner, but Nomad is just opposite the ROH and great for cocktails.

Margot and Temper used to be good. Or, if you’re willing to walk a bit: Humble Chicken, The Seafood Bar, Mr Ji…

    I enjoy Balthazar.

If you can manage a short walk then 10 Greek Street is the perfect pre theatre spot in my view.

Balthazar is opposite and we enjoyed it even in its overhyped way.
Christopher’s Grill was pretty good too if you’re feeling Americanophilic and carniverous.

You can’t really plan with Dishoom as their queue is always so long you can’t guarantee you’ll be out in time, and they don’t let you reserve at dinner (you can at lunch).

    My current favourite is http://www.bancone.co.uk

We have been going there for a few years and always get excellent Michelin standard (without the fuss) Italian food.

Do you have to book well in advance on perfomance days?

I don’t know if you have to, because I’ve booked in advance for all post-COVID bookings anyway.

Whilst further to walk (it is by Piccadilly Circus) Brasserie Zedel – in the old Atlantic Bar & Grill site for the oldies on here – remains the winner of my ‘best value for money food traded off for luxury of surroundings’ award.
