Forums Payment cards American Express Priority Pass lounge access

  • 12 posts

Does anyone have an update on Priority Pass lounge access with the Amex Platinum Card? Last year, we received four complimentary vouchers for UK lounges that required pre-booking, but it seems this has now been discontinued.

I noticed that pre-booking lounge access at Gatwick via the Priority Pass website now costs £6. However, when searching on the Amex site, it suggests that you can access the Plaza Premium Lounge by simply showing your Platinum Card and boarding pass.

Is this correct? And does this mean there is no need to pre-book, aside from the usual risk of being turned away if the lounge is full?

@Dean_K you never had to pre book to get lounge access. However, the option was there should you wish too.

You can by all means approach any lounge that is apart of the scheme for entry whether you gain access is another story.

Some people prefer to pre book, so they are guaranteed entry others are willing to try their luck. It is all down to lounge capacity at a given time.

Personally, if I was going to utilize a lounge at peak time, I would pre book. If I was going off peak I wouldn’t necessarily bother.

Problem is, if you try to pre-book, it very often says it’s full anyway !! But it can be advisable to try.

From experience if your going to UK lounge then I suggest to prebook. Apart from say LAX, AMS, I wouldn’t bother.
