Forums › Payment cards › Virgin Atlantic › Product switch from Virgin Money to Virgin Atlantic Credit Cards?
-
Hi,
I’ve had virgin money card left almost completely unused for many years now, and having checked recently I’ve somehow gained an obscenely high credit limit. However I have little use for this, as almost all my spending goes through my amex platinum / Barclays avois. Having said that I’m reluctant to cancel it as you never know when that credit limit might become useful.Has anyone managed to do a product switch between the Virgin Money to Virgin Atlantic cards? Whenever I call Virgin Money customer services they don’t seem have a clue what I’m on about. Very odd considering other banks (Halifax, Barclays, Amex, Nationwide) have let me do this with ease and I’ve kept the credit limit.
Even if you could, you wouldn’t get a bonus, so this technique is only worth it on the free Virgin Atlantic card.
For the paid card I’d cancel, wait 6 months then do a fresh application for Reward+ to get the 25k bonus.
I hadn’t considered that there would be a 6 month gap in order to be eligible for the bonus, didn’t see that in the T&Cs.
However isn’t it 15k?
I’m happy to risk not getting that, because the value of having a huge credit limit card with regular decent money/balance transfer deals for a rainy day is probably higher than that. Just a bit concerned that the credit limit they’ll offer me on a second card might be so low it is not worth it.Even if you could, you wouldn’t get a bonus, so this technique is only worth it on the free Virgin Atlantic card.

Unless the criteria has change recently, you will qualify for the bonus unless you’ve held a Virgin Atlantic card in the past 6 months. Holding another Virgin Money card does not disqualify you from the bonus.
You won’t be able to switch though. You will need to apply.
Thanks all.
Applied for the new card, somewhat grudgingly, and application initially went into pended state where it stayed for well over a week. From past experience with other cards I thought this meant I would be rejected or get granted a meagre credit limit.
Eventually got the acceptance email, to my surprise with a substantially higher credit limit (almost 50%) than my already-high Virgin Money Card! So it seems Virgin do not penalise those with two cards, indeed it may have even helped me. This credit limit was many multiples of the one I was last granted on a newly opened account with another bank. Will update on whether I receive the bonus.
