Does anyone know if you have to book the adults and add the baby after with Qatar? When I search for 2 adults seats are there. When I switch booking to 2 adults and a baby no availability shows.

I had the same situation few months ago (flying tomorrow!). I decided to book through BA and had no problems, taxes were slightly more expensive. After having many problems with a Finnair redemption (using Asia Miles) adding my son I didn’t want to risk it.

If you book via Qatar you’d need to call them after and buy a ticket for the infant at 10% of the cash fare on sale. So it’s very likely you’re better off booking via BA

Thanks both. When you say book with BA, do you mean Qatar flight via BA or BA metal?

QR flight through BA, avios should be the same and taxes a bit higher, but as @rams mentioned you will save in the infant ticket and you don’t need to call Qatar.

Old thread, just wondering if anything has changed.
Booking flights on QR via redemption, baby not born yet so want to just lock in availability for adults. Should I do it via QR or BA?

Qatar won’t let you redeem Avios in J with a lap infant when booking through them directly (only allowed for cash fares).

Therefore you have book the QR flight using Avios via BA (either over the phone, or if the baby has been born, you can book online with BA.com).

This worked for me when using the QR site to book a CX redemption at a lower rate than on the BA or CX sites.

Search for the flight in economy with the lap infant then upon getting to the flight selection you can select a J redemption. Voila.
