Forums Payment cards American Express Query on Amex welcome offer

  • 5 posts

Hi, I’ve recently moved to the UK and is looking at the Amex UK portal to apply for their Preferred Rewards Gold credit card. I already have a 7 years relationship with them in India and would like to use that to have a better chance at getting the approval for the card.

Now, since the Welcome bonus offer mentions about not having personal Amex credit card for the last 24 months, I’m wondering if I would be eligible or not for the welcome offer. I still hold my Indian Amex cards just to have a better chance at the UK card approval.

Any information on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You’re fine – the bonus rules only apply to UK cards.

Give details of your Indian cards when applying as they will use this to approve you.

    Thanks Rob.
My application has been rejected (even before generating the reference number). Looks like I need to wait for some more time before I can apply.

This is peculiar – the whole point of the global transfer program is that you should be able to either move your existing Amex to the equivalent found in the country you moved to, or, apply for a new card as soon as you arrive. There’s a dedicated section in the application where you declare which country you have a history with Amex already. Presumably you did that?

There was an option to add my card number from other country, which I did.

Tried calling on Amex support today. They redirected me to new accounts team, who put me on hold for 15mins+. I’ve to end the call as I had work. Will call them tomorrow when I’ve an hour to wait probably 🙂
