I am new to the amex companion voucher. And I am doing the math if I travel to Tokyo from UK with my partner. The off peak price is ranging from 70k avios+ £200 to 13.7k avios + £550. If I pick 13.7k avios + £550 and using my companion voucher for my partner. Is the total cost = £550+£200+13.7k avios? It would be a great deal consider a single return ticket to Tokyo is around £1k
Can’t say for sure but doubt it. It should work out at 13.7k miles plus £550 plus £550
The page which shows you the different pricing options should also give you the full price of your booking for 2 people. Select a different option and it will recalculate it for you.
This is interesting because I’m sure that up till now using the 241 has only given one choice of avios pricing. At least when I used an old voucher to book to MIA the other day I’m sure it only gave me one option, though I was in a bit of a rush to get the seats! Is this another feature of the new voucher, I wonder?
@derricklty when searching without ticking the “use my companion voucher” box you get multiple Avios+cash options. AFAIK when you search having ticked the box you will only be shown one option. The taxes will be 2x, the points 1x with the voucher.
After reading this I did a couple of speculative searches with the new 241 and indeed got all the different payment options. Possibly BA has recently tweaked its booking system to give this so people have the option of giving them (a lot more) cash, which they will probably welcome.
