Hi All,
Just looking for some advice. So unfortunately I did pick up the Free Amex BA Card (Blue One) last year rather than the black one because at the time i wasn’t eligible for the BA Premium Plus.
I am looking to either pick up a gold/Platinum card since I can still get the bonus for these. I have checked both moneysavingexpert and the Amex website and i’m eligible for both.
Can anyone help me come up with a game plan on how I should proceed?
I was thinking to pick up the gold card now to get the extra bonus or would it be better to wait it out and see if the platinum gets a bonus at some point over the next year?
Once i’ve picked up a platinum/gold based on this forums recommendation, should I cancel my free BA Amex card. Wait 2 years and then pick up the BA Premium Plus?

Indeed and if you get the gold card you’ll scupper your chances of a Platinum sub (though see the recent thread on minimum income also).

You might have a while to wait for an enhanced bonus on Plat as the last one just finished 10 days ago. I think there was one last year.
FYI, for Gold bonus, you can’t have had any personal Amex in the last 2 years.
You won’t be eligible for sign up bonus on gold card.

Just got myself the Barclaycard Avios Plus Mastercard for the bonus and it’s nice it’s a mastercard since it’ll be accepted in more places. I will cancel my Amex BA Blue card soon and use the Barclaycard instead. I earn more avios per £ spent too which is nice. After 2 years I will go for the Black BA Amex card. And just go for the platinum whenever the next bonus is. If anyone has any improvements to this or any other recommendations please do let me know

Yep, having the Barclaycard is definitely useful.
If you do cancel your free BA card, then that will restart your 2 year clock to be eligible for the Gold bonus. So if you didn’t go for the Plat in that time, you could go Gold first, and then straight to a BA Premium Plus (BAPP), and get the bonus on both.
Gold card is free in the first year, so you’d have to weigh up the lower SUB and benefits compared to the Plat, but the high fee. Also worth noting that there’s been reports on these forums of Amex tightening acceptance on the Plat, and people with income below £50k were being rejected, just in case you fall into that category.

I’m in a good financial spot right now in terms of income so the 50k is no issue. Is it 2 years from the day/day after you cancel? Or if I cancel say on the 30th June 2023 is it safer to just get a new Amex card on the 30th July rather than say the 1st July.
I assume you don’t receive an email or anything saying it’s been 2 years or you’re eligible for a welcome bonus?

This seems to have gone now. Heard a 43k getting through. It seems it was increased FOR THE increased bonus.
