Hi everyone,
Sorry for the long post. Got a few questions, and hoping for some answers please.
So took the BC Avios Plus card in June, and quickly earned the voucher, after around 3 months the option to downgrade the card appeared on the app, but just around the same time, the 100k avios offet came up, so decided to keep it (as did my wife), and we both have received the bonus now.
And with the new 50k offer on now, I decided to sign up my mum (who is in my HHA), but I’m actually paying the bill.
As I pay for the BAPP and Gold card, decided I no longer want the paid for BC, but the offer to downgrade has disappeared (not sure when). Wanted to know if anyone is able to downgrade currently? I don’t want to cancel altogether, and not really fussed about the voucher as we have plenty between us. I’m aware that you can’t call to change what appears on the app, but wondering if its just me.
Separately, I have a question regarding the BAPP voucher. Can I book the outbound trip as a solo traveller (for 50% avios), and book the return with a companion?
Lastly, just regarding the HHA. As mentioned above, my mum is in my HHA and is due to receive 50k avios shortly (from my spend). I’m planning to make a redemption soon after for my parents, and would like to use all my mum’s points, so I can cancel her card after and not worry about points expiring (I’m aware that points have 3 years expiry, but don’t want to have to make transactions, or take another card to keep her points active).
My plan was to move points to Qatar, only leaving enough to make the booking, and then moving them back (have tested small amounts, and sent them back; the points return in the same ratio to each account, so that previous loophole appears to be closed). But what happens when I move points from Qatar back to an empty BAEC account, do 100% be sent to me? Or sent equally to each member? Or is it just a simple case of removing my mum from the HHA once her BAEC is emptied?
Thanks!
Just an update on this. I cleared my BC Plus card balance (before the statement date), and now the downgrade offer has reappeared, so that might be a future data point.
My other queries are still unanswered, and would be really grateful for your help, please.
No, you can’t use a BAPP voucher in the way you’re asking. No idea about the Qatar question!

Thanks for your reply. I know I will have to call anyway, as annoyingly this route is one of the ones where it always shows an error when searching for flights (I know there is availability from SeatSpy and when searching from different start points).
1. I got the Barclays premium avios card in Nov and I do have the option to downgrade. I have an offer to get 1000 avios for spending £1000 which I will take up, do the spend and then move on.

3 This might be helpful to you: Everytime you make a redemption from the HHA it will take avios pro rata from each member and reset the expiry date for everyone! It must have been years since my dad’s account has earned any avios but his expiry date is 3 years away as I made a redemption for mum and I a few days ago. So if your mum says in HHA and as long as someone in the HHA makes a redemption every so often you don’t need to worry about her expiry and save this moving points faffing. Assuming you don’t mind keeping her in HHA that is.
Is the other option to make the redemption then pay £15 to move the rest of the points over to you and kick her out of the HHA. Assuming the left over is below transfer limit -i’m less sure about this method.
Hi Reney, thanks for your reply.
1. For me the downgrade option actually reappeared as soon as I cleared my balance. I’ll wait until my Avios transfer next week, and downgrade.
3. That’s actually useful to know that redemptions reset the expiry counter. Because my mum’s points will make up less than 10% of the HHA balance, she will still be left with a decent amount left, and maybe more than the 27k transfer limit. I guess I can transfer the rest next year if need be.
