Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Radisson Rewards Radisson reviews following my VIP status upgrade

  • 1,327 posts

The following line is just a clarification of subject to availability. I have 100% success rate of upgrades to suites even as Premium so with VIP it should be better, but obviously isn’t as I’m sure there were just too many status holders.

I never had a suite as a Premium, neither has my wife AFAIK (who does more Radisson stays than me, mainly Hamburg Airport). Can’t even remember a report from anyone who got one, which is why we are so neutral about it in our ‘are the Amex hotel statuses worth having?’ article.

I mean, let’s be serious here.

Premium requires THREE STAYS. That’s it. Three stays in a year, or five nights. You could do a one night stay every 4 months and still earn Premium. No hotel is dishing out suites to anyone with that level of ‘loyalty’.

Not surprised, although as a datapoint I did manage an upgrade to a 2 bed suite in Dubai with Premium through Amex plat in Q1 2024, which was much to my surprise and very welcome as I did not request anything.

That must be before they opened the floodgates to VIP status.

l Yet to use the VIP new status but this thread is giving a lot of confidence.

Could’ve waited to get the VIP status just before you stay, to maximise the period of elite status.

Am curious how things will turn out in a year when most of these newly minted VIPs drop to premium.

20 stays to keep VIP status is doable. I am extremely happy about the new status (nice hotels, good upgrades and free breakfast for 2 also on weekdays) thanks to the Avolta status match, and am already half way through the 20 stays not to lose the status.

Indeed, was around this time last year (2024).

Just booked Cork for June with VIP so we will see how it goes…

…just tried to look at Radisson in Seattle. Comes up with nearest hotels being in Iceland. Does Radisson not do the USA? It has 39 hotels in RUSSIA 🙁

Radisson Hotel and Conference Centre at Heathrow:

Booked a room with 4 nights parking for a short break. After 20 mins of circling the car park, eventually nabbed a parking space! Didn’t get upgraded but they amended the 4 nights of parking I’d booked to 6 without charging me extra and let me use my free drinks voucher for a vodka red bull (even though I think technically that was two drinks). Also got a welcome gift of chocolate, a very nice cupcake and a small can of coke. Offered the free breakfast but I need to leave too early to take advantage. I don’t think I’d stay here again just because the parking was so fraught!

Currently staying at the Park Plaza London Waterloo. Upgraded from lowest category to Studio King Executive, though currently no Exec Lounge as it’s used for private functions apparently. I did jokingly ask about suites but it got laughed off by the check in agent. Interesting to see that someone else got one. Unfortunately, I’d booked before I got VIP status so had booked a breakfast inclusive rate. Schoolboy error.
The room interiors are almost identical to the Art ‘otel Hoxton’s, so I wonder if it has the same owners? (I share Miss London’s dislike of the glass bathroom doors, and the lighting system is a pain – most time it’s too dark, but at night it’s too easy to accidentally turn the room lights on full when trying to turn on a bathroom light at 2am!)
Breakfast not a patch on the Art ‘otel’s full service breakfast though. Park Plaza is more like a HIE or Hampton Hilton – self service buffet and an interior room without daylight.
It’ll be interesting to see what room I get when I go back to the Art ‘otel in April, having booked lowest category (post VIP status). Got upgraded last time on a Premium status and very nicely treated.

There’s no suggestion that you get a suite when booking a standard room, not sure why people are expecting that.
Also off the mark I suspect comparing Park Plaza to HIE, are you sure you aren’t mixed up with their Park Inn offering?

I’ve had two stays recently at a Park Inn and a Blu and well treated both times without a suite, which in any case would be wasted on me.

Had two stays recently at the Edwardian in Manchester and was upgraded both times to a alfresco suite from a basic room – nice gift of Charbonnel and Walker truffles and a very good breakfast

Hi, could not find this info, could someone share their wisdom, please?

Does vip breakfast count regardless if it says in the app or not?

For example I see a room on app with members plan and save that says 90€/night with “Free vip breakfast” next to Pay with points, room-only/non refundable.

And if I do prepaid members app only I can see the same room for 85€/night but this one doesn’t show “free vip breakfast”, just shows app only rate, Pay with points, room-only/non refundable.

Would the second option include the vip breakfast regardless?

Bonus second question – is it normal that the booking displays “room only” even though it was selected with the “free vip breakfast” members plan and save selection?

    Thank you very much!

I stayed with family at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge on Sunday. Booked a superior double (25m2) and got an upgrade to a 10th floor studio room (36m2) with London eye view. I did ask about a suite but they said not available. The pool and executive lounge was nice.

Hotel: Radisson Blu Tottenham Court Road (formerly Kenilworth)
Room Booked: Standard Double Room & Standard twin
Upgraded? No : This may be related to having booked 2 rooms and asking that they be close together?
    Lounge Access: No lounge.
Welcome gift: 2 drinks vouchers each, but they seemed to be presented because the room was not ready (when we checked in at 17:30) rather than a welcome gift.
    Service: Good.
Would we stay again?: Not sure

Has anyone stayed at the Radisson Blu Budapest and been upgraded? Going in a couple of weeks and was wondering what to expect

I am no expert, but the Benefits page of Radisson says under the VIP column “Free Breakfast for two – Enjoy free breakfast for two every day of your stay. Not guaranteed for long stay rates.” We have just done three stays and had breakfast at all and found that at certain stages the app doesn’t show breakfast, but that you can select it (or it says you will receive it, can’t remember exactly) after you have chosen the room-only rate.

    Our recent Radisson experiences…

We were in Gothenburg at the Radisson Blu Scandinavia on Valentine’s Day. Had booked a standard room and were upgraded to a Junior Suite with an inside view of the atrium. (Certainly quieter with that view than the last time we stayed here!) A couple of chocolates and an apple waiting.

Then we stayed at the Radisson Blu Waterfront in Stockholm the next night and went from a standard room to a top (16th) floor with amazing view (said Business Class on the door). A nice box of chocolates (valentine’s theme) waiting and a personalised message, suggesting we had already been allocated that room well before our arrival.

Had a night at the Hilton in Stockholm too, one of the craziest hotel layouts I have ever seen. Still, the staff were lovely and we had a decent upgrade there as well.

On our way home we ended up enjoying the Club Europe service (only 7 out of 12 seats occupied, so we were well looked after) and driving home wasn’t an option, so we booked the Radisson Hotel & Conference Centre London Heathrow as we got off the plane. Were at the hotel about half an hour after booking and they managed to find us a family room (upgraded from a cosy room) as well as a couple of drinks vouchers.

Radisson looked after us very well this weekend and they are already getting some of our future stays that they wouldn’t otherwise have had.

Thanks as always to Rob and team for the advice that enabled us to have VIP status in the first place.

Stopped at the Park Plaza Westminster last weekend (solo traveller) – got upgraded to a very nice room on 10th floor with great view, plus access to the Executive Lounge, had a nice afternoon tea, then brekkie there the following morning. A good stay for £130.

Quick question – can I book using my VIP status for my parents to stay to get the same upgrade/benefits as me? I would book and pay, just wouldn’t be me staying. They have no status.

    Hotel: Radisson Blu Leeds
    Room Booked: Stardard Room
    Upgraded? Yes : Premium Room
    Lounge Access: No lounge.
    Welcome gift: None
    Service: Fine
Would we stay again?: Its reasonably priced and a convenient location

The check in agent upgraded me to a premium room after apologising for the hotel being fully booked. I had to prompt for comp breakfast. No welcome gift and no offer of late check out. Probably the worst service I had received at a Radisson.

Next week – Park Plaza Westminter Bridge

I’d say no, why would that work unless they masquerade as you?

So a free upgrade and free breakfast not good enough? Tough school in this thread.
Is a free gift part of the VIP deal?

I had a couple of nice experiences in Blu Karlsruhe and Collection in Copenhagen and will def be continuing to use this Radisson status bonus.

Couple of questions about this as new to Radisson… do you tend to see upgrades on your booking in advance (how far in advance), and does the free breakfast tend to apply to all rooms in the booking? Just at the whim of the hotel, I guess? I see a lot of people talking about multiple rooms getting upgraded, but I wasn’t sure about the other perks.

I’ve booked two rooms at the Radisson RED in Kraków and I’m curious what to expect as VIP!
