Like the title says, apparently Radisson Americas are being taken over by Choice Privileges. Anyone know anything about it?

    Isn’t it old news?

Was never actually confirmed they would merge the two schemes until today although it was always hugely likely.

Bigger issue is that anyone with a balance in RR Rest of World needs to decide once and for all where they want their points – in Choice or in RR Rest of World.

I’ve a RR UK balance – about 430k or so.
Bearing in mind the decimation of the UK RR scheme and the reduction in value, would you advise transferring to RR US and availing of the transfer to Choice?
I’ve not much intention of using my points in the UK, and I normally stay in London Park Plaza’s/Radissons, and the new scheme isn’t very attractive for that.
Wife & I have BA companion vouchers that we have aspirations of using to visit New York, or Australia in the next year or so.
    Any advice?
    Thanks

The Choice estate in the US is decent for what it is – but what it is is budget-end roadside motel-style lodging. No way to avoid being shafted so don’t transfer to a less useful scheme as well! If you really want to use it in New York, then Cambria and Ascend is about as upscale as the Choice brands get; 3* properties – so I’d see if this works for you in terms of quality, location and redemption prices.

I’d just take the haircut and, as you stay in London now and again, then burn the points at the reduced rate at London Radissons before you wash your hands of the scheme – they haven’t become bad hotels due to the points scheme now being crud and there are a number of very solid options to choose from.

I’ve moved my Radisson points to RR US. As per Rob’s link above, using them with Nordic choice is likely to give much better value (my back of the envelope calculations had me getting more than 4 times the value on an Oslo or Helsinki redemption). There’s a risk I’ll never manage to redeem there or that I’ll be shafted by another devaluation while the points stay in a worse scheme, but the risk seems worthwhile.
