Redeem voucher – option lost if changing cards?

Hello,

I’ve had the Barclaycard Avios Plus card for about 4 months and have just hit my £10,000 spend so I can now redeem my upgrade voucher.

I don’t want to redeem the voucher now, I would like to delay this as long as possible so the expiry date is later.

However I would like to downgrade my card to the standard Barclaycard Avios, will I lose the option to redeem the voucher? Or will it automatically be redeemed for me when I change my card?

I believe someone posted previously that they lost their voucher by not redeeming it before switching cards, I certainly wouldn’t take the risk. When you switch, which takes effect at the next statement date, your spend tracker resets to zero so it seems entirely logical that you then have nothing to redeem.

Ah kind of makes sense I guess. I don’t really want to redeem it right now as I can’t see me using it in the next year which will only give me another year to use it. But I don’t want to continue paying £20 a month, so maybe I’ll just redeem it to be safe.

IIRC, the poster thought that they had lost their voucher, but it had actually been sent over to their BAEC account when the Barclays card was downgraded. So I think that you don’t lose it, but you then have no control over the expiry date.

Well now I definitely don’t know what to do! Ha. Think just to be safe I’ll redeem it before I downgrade

Yeah I did search before I asked but couldn’t see the same question. I’ve redeemed by voucher anyway just to be safe, I’ll wait for it to appear in my account before switching. Thanks for the help.

New holder of the Barclay Card Avios Plus and hit the £10k spend limit a few weeks ago. Never received the voucher though – is it something you have to redeem in your Barclay card account? i.e. it won’t appear in your BA account on its own? Thanks!

You need to go onto the app and go to “View your avios”. You should see a choice there to select the upgrade voucher or 7k avios instead. Once you’ve made your selection, it will appear in your BAEC account in a couple of days.
