Can anyone reliably confirm if the refer a friend bonus is still received by the person referring for an AMEX credit card if the application is turned down initially, but later agreed upon by AMEX over the phone?
Yes, I can! My OH was unexpectedly turned down and we realised that the issue was probably an unused BA card with a credit limit of £19,000. Her credit scoring was 999 out of 999!
We cancelled the unused card and rang back to ask for a review. Within 2 days she received acceptance and card 2 days later. I was amazed to discover the referral bonus in my account the same day 👍😊

Thank you for the feedback. AMEX told me that I would need to wait 3 months following the cancellation of the most recent AMEX card before I could reapply. I wonder about this though, as never been aware of this and don’t think it was an issues in the past.
You can certainly apply before 3 months are up, if you get turned down it won’t be due to that. Why would they want to stop you spending money if you meet all the other criteria? Amex CSAs often say things which have no basis in reality!
