Just checking if its normal for AMEX to reject a downgrade from BAPP to the free BA blue card?
I have just got the companion voucher 5 months in and called to downgrade to the free card as with the new spending requirement, there is a high chance I won’t be able to hit the spending requirement.
Have not gamed the system of upgrading/downgrading anything before, and hold another AMEX Gold which I will start paying this month.
Thanks in advance.
Update: Sorted.
I applied for it online and got approved using this link: https://www.americanexpress.com/en-gb/apply/downgrade/personal/credit-cards/ba-classic
This is what I was looking into a few days ago.
Note of caution Read the small print. The companion voucher will only be valid for one year Yes /No
If you have already reached the £10,000 spend threshold, you may receive a Companion Voucher that is valid for 12 months, rather than 24 months. If you would like to extend the validity of the Companion Voucher to 24 months, please contact British Airways customer service directly and they will look into extending the validity of the Companion Voucher for you.
The BA Companion Voucher has already been in my avios account with a 2 year expiry date stated few days ago, but will keep a look out.
Did this downgrade immediately or at the end of the month?
Did you get a refund of outstanding annual fee?It downgrades immediately (well within an hour or so)
You will get pro rata refund, for now. It’s processed within a few days.
Will the companion voucher still be valid for two years, confused by the small print

if its already been issued, yes
Just to confirm, if I downgrade, I’ll receive a pro rata refund still for the card?
Good morning. Has anyone had the 2 year expiry date ( already in BAEC account ) changed to 1 year expiry after downgrading to free card? Thanks in advance.
