    Rentalcars come up quite a bit cheaper than booking direct. Is there any reason not to use them and book with Hertz, Avis or Sixt direct?

    No reason whatsoever, brokers often get better deal. Try Skyscanner to shop the various brokers

    Status does not get recognised, but in my experience the status benefits tend to be quite modest so if the cost is lower then I wouldn’t worry too much about it. I’d also suggest looking at trip.com – they seem to be very competitive these days.
