Requesting Virgin miles instead of Tier Points

Situation 1
Booked a points flights and used a companion voucher for my partner – can we request to forego the tier points and receive miles instead? We fly this evening.

Situation 2
My partner booked cash flights – tier points have already been posted. Can they be retrospectively exchanged for miles?

I recall somewhere in the forum saying something about not taking tier points and instead taking miles, or more miles…not the greatest memory recollection! I now cant find the thread.

Called Virgin and CR said never, went into explaining the difference between tier points and miles, which was not really what I asked.

Any help appreciated.

I’m with the CS – never. Never heard of such a thing or read about such a thing on this site or elsewhere.

All I can think is that you’ve read about the difference in miles (‘more miles’) being given with different ticket types (e.g. econ delight)

1. Reward flights don’t earn VS Points (miles) but they do earn Tier Points. No way to earn extra miles from that.

2. You earn Tier Points & VS Points (miles) on this. You cannot under any circumstance trade in the Tier Points for extra miles. They’re completely seperate things.

Indeed I’ve never heard of being able to swap TPs for points.

Would be an interesting concept though to allow it and also swapping miles for TPs in assessing that the respective values would be.

I can imagine it would be a very low number of points swapping TPs for points and a large number of points required per TP

You can only do something like this if you pay for a lower class and upgrade using voucher(perhaps also using points) to a higher class. You don’t choose points instead of TPs. You get the points and TPs for the original revenue fare, if you opt to not take the full G TPs you would have received for the higher class
