Searching for business class reward flights to johannesburg through to early February next year shows virtually no availability outbound, which seems odd. Could this be a glitch in the matrix or is it simply a very, very, popular route. We didn’t have any trouble booking reward seats last year.
Very popular, and some people have been booking it as an alternative to the even more popular CPT, which might explain the lack of availability for Jan/Feb. Probably one you need to be online or on the phone for at midnight at T-355.
Could you book J to another airport (e.g. NBO) and connect from there?

I could possibly do that, but the final destination would be Windhoek, Namibia, so I will check on connections, don’t want to add more stops than necessary. Thanks.
What are the cash prices like to Windhoek on Ethiopian and Kenya?

Google flights isn’t showing any direct flights from Nairobi to Windhoek. So will keep checking on BA to see if anything pops up. Very flexible with dates, so there is always a chance.
Do you have a BAPP companion voucher? These can open up extra CW availability, although the only way to see this is by searching with the voucher for specific dates.
Otherwise book PE to JNB and enquire about a cash upgrade at the airport? (A couple of people have also reported getting cash upgrade offers on avios flights in MMB recently as well).
Or BAH and upgrade with avios?
Yes, we do have the companion voucher. Will keep looking, lots of options as you say. Thanks.
Although you can’t use the CV another option could be Qatar via Doha direct to Windhoek. Your bags would go straight through and could probably do a quicker connection (I did BA to JBG and then on to Windhoek and had to collect bags, clear immigration, re-check in etc)
EDIT – scrap this, having checked it looks like the Qatar flight also goes via Joburg
It’s a challenge. Thanks for looking. If only BA knew where Windhoek was and flew direct 😄

Then IAG would not be one of the most profitable airline groups in the world…

This wasn’t the case pre Christmas. There was always good availability, certainly if looking to book seats 355 days ahead waking up in the morning. Now it seems the CW, and even the Premium are being snapped up. Frustrating.
We are looking to book next week to travel mid Feb 2026.
There seems to be more seats coming available for the return leg in Feb 26. One option I’ve looked at is to use 241 and avios to get back, with Swiss business class on outbound looking competitive on price (£1500ish on some dates this year).
There appears to be a fair bit of availability between now and Apr2025 so perhaps wait until nearer the time. Also seems to be a fair bit of availability in Premium Economy for Jan2026. Have you considered booking PE and then setting up an alert for Club? You’d have to pay a change fee and the extra Avios but that way you at least have seats.
Joburg is now as bad as Cape Town re availability!
SeatSpy is currently showing 3 x J seats for Feb 7th next year.

LHR to JNB? They aren’t available
Well they could have been snapped up in the 2.5 hours between these posts, but you always need to double check on ba.com as SeatSpy can lag behind a bit.

They weren’t there at 6am when I woke up this morning, so a bit behind yes
I highlighted something which might be useful, and has been useful to other readers previously. You can add your information about actual availability without sniping!

I wasn’t sniping, just passing over info. Apologies for the directness, that’s the Northerner in me.
I’m checking each morning and no availability for any Js recently. Not sure how difficult they’ll be to get a midnight though.
Will keep checking. Our dates are totally fkexible, so will take what we can find. Thanks for the responses.
As someone going to Namibia via Jo’berg this coming Sept (for the 4th time!) you do know it’ll be really hot and possibly very wet at that time? Apologies if you do know.
Also going with a companion voucher and I’d also noticed the drought of availability for next Jan/Feb. I want CPT and was happy to settle for JNB as an alternative but can hardly find any. ☹️We have been able to get two tickets using 241 for each of the past two years when tickets appeared to have been dumped well after T355, so keep checking.
Could it be extra seats are released when aircraft are changed/confirmed eg A380? On each of the occasions we have got seats, it has been on the A380 and on the later flight (which seems less popular).

End of the winter dry season so very low rainfall.
Joburg outbound opened up for dates after 25th Oct this morning, I was able to get 26th LHR-JNB, 11th Nov CPT-LHR in J class using 2 -1 voucher. 190,000 Avios and £950. When I looked there was loads of availability outbound, not much inbound.
