Just received email from BA that there is now RFS for USA/ME.
£100 return to the Middle East or the USA and 50,000 Avios.
I have that email too. But it doesn’t seem to work. Does it only work on returns? Or only ex UK? Looking for one way new York to UK and the best I get is 50k plus 500 quid. Sure it was under 300 when I last booked this 2 years ago.
Is this the economy only RFS?

Yeah, only works in economy so in normal times a terrible use of Avios but cash rates are so high at the moment may not be bad in some circumstances.
I don’t really understand the oft-repeated statement that long haul economy is a terrible use of Avios. It varies hugely by date and route but can often be a smart thing to do.
Economy fares to the parts of the USA that I want to visit are rarely less than the £600 value implied by the BA email unless you’re willing to travel mid week. For example, flying to Denver for a late-season ski trip is ~£900 depending on which weekend (obviously much higher again at Easter), which values the Avios at 1.6p. It’s tough to get that kinf of value on a premium long haul redemption.
This isn’t just theoretical: I recently paid £900ish for a rescheduled ski trip to the States over half term. I know long haul in Economy is hard work, but business class was nearly £3,000, I’m paying for six seats, and the quality of skiing in the Rockies more than offsets a few hours of discomfort. Had reward flights been available, I would certainly have used them.

50,000 Avios = 80,000 Nectar Points
80,000 Nectar Points = £400 Sainsbury shopping
£100 + £400 = £500.
That includes luggage doesn’t it?
There are certainly some options to get to the USA with HBO for around £330 (JetBlue looks very appealing), but as soon as you add luggage and are seeking a broader range of direct flights – it’s hard to get anything for under £500 these days.
I’d probably spend 50,000 Avios over £400 in cash on this occasion.
I wouldn’t say it’s a terrible way to spend £600 (yes not £500 because while the floor value is 0.8p at sainsburys that doesn’t mean it’s worth swapping an Avios for that, 1p minimum for me)
Let’s not forget fully refundable minus £35 so very flexible if you do find a cheaper deal (unlikely
Right now)

Links just take you to main website, but you can see reference here:

In the email it mentions “You could visit New York, Boston or Chicago for £100 and 50,000 Avios return”
