Hi first time poster here just looking for some advice –
Myself and the family (2 adults and 3 kids) are due to fly from LGW to MCO (BA2039 on 17/9/22 departing at 14:30). These are reward flights, unfortunately as we were late in deciding when to go on holiday there were no reward seats left on the earlier 10:55 (BA2037).
We fly to Gatwick from glasgow at 6:45am and land approx 8:20am. Ideally I’d love to try and get onto the earlier flight if possible. I know there are economy seats available but no reward seats. Apart from continually checking BA site and rewardsflightfinder, is there anything else I can do to try and get moved onto the earlier flight without it costing a fortune? Do any available seats tend to become reward seats closer the departure date?
Sorry if this has been asked before but just trying to figure out if I have any options available….
Appreciate the help
John
Availability does tend to improve as the departure date approaches. In my experience the very best availability is in the morning of the day before the flight in question (I’m not sure at what time the allocation is released and is showing as bookable). You should be able to amend the booking for the cancellation/amendment fee alone as long as it’s more than 24 hours before departure. However, in light of the state of BA’s domestic connections at the moment (they’re often the first to experience the axe at times of stress) it might not be a bad idea to stick to your later departure which builds safety margin into your plans. You don’t want BA cancelling or delaying your proposed flight from GLA and then finding that you’ve missed your onward flight.
Might be worth a seatspy subscription to save you checking
That flight is quite reliable as it’s purpose is to feed connections to long haul and Orlando is a popular one so I’d be happy to make the change personally
The schools are back by your travel date so that gives you a better chance of grabbing anything that comes up. TBH though, you’ll need a bit of luck for 5 more seats to appear! As well as watching out for reward seats, keep checking in MMB in case BA cancels either of your currently booked legs – you might be able to change to the earlier flight if so.
