Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Reward voucher – which class of taxes?

  • 1 post

    Hi,

My apologies if this has already been answered.

My question is, if booking a premium seat using points and taxes and then upgrading to upper using a reward voucher which taxes are applicable to be paid; premium or upper?

Many thanks for any help or advice.

Both. You use points and pay TFS to get ticketed in to P, then the voucher and the delta in uplifted TFS to G.

You don’t ‘upgrade’ to Upper on a points booking. You are booked into Upper and you pay the taxes of Upper but the points requirement is reduced to that of Premium.

This is important because YOU DON’T NEED PREMIUM AVAILABILITY. You need Upper availability but that’s it.

Is there a sweet spot to use 2 vouchers for two people….that minimises cash outlay and points?

That’s different to every experience that I’ve ever had when AL’s employer pays for Economy, and AL’s standards require Upper…

Your experience should be different AL as Op wants to book a reward seat with a 1 class upgrade, whereas you are effectively double upgrading a cash ticket and the first part of your upgrade needs there to award space to be into premium so that you can then upgrade a premium ticket to upper.
